Interested in becoming a Picnic Studio artist?

Artists work at their own pace in a supportive studio environment alongside peers, with guidance from staff as needed. We maintain a small studio ratio (approximately 1:3), allowing for individualized support within a collaborative group setting. Our approach is flexible and adaptive – rather than structured classes, we support each artist’s individual interests, pace, and creative process.

Artists should:

● Be 18 or older

● Have an intellectual or developmental disability

● Have a serious interest in making art

● Be able to work safely and respectfully in a group environment

● Be independent with personal care or attend with a support person/attendant

● Follow our community values and safety protocols

Studio Hours: Monday & Wednesday 9 a.m. – 1 p.m, Friday 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturday 12 – 4 p.m.

Funding Options:

Picnic Studio welcomes artists through a variety of funding options. Our standard rate is $75/hour, with a 2-hour minimum for ongoing sessions. Artists typically attend either 2-hour or 4-hour studio sessions, depending on the artist’s needs and the studio environment. We accept Self-Determination Program (SDP) funding, Regional Center–supported funding (including vendor pathways such as Aveanna), private pay, and scholarships. If you’re not sure what option is best for your family, we’re happy to help guide you through the process.

Trial & Tour:

All new artists begin with a 1-hour trial studio session so we can make sure the program is a good fit for everyone. Trial sessions are billed at our standard rate. If the program is a good match, families will then receive the Picnic Studio Family Packet, which includes program policies and registration materials.
